true.. most of my favorite albums are riddled with sex and violence
ever since melle mel wrote 'the message' certain rappers have realized that rap music was the perfect medium to expose certain ghetto problems to the world... nwa screamed fuck the police cause all they saw around them was police in riot gear busting down crack houses... not one of them had a criminal record besides eazy e, but do you think all of their fans knew that?
unfortunately the line between rapper and drug dealer is one that has become increasingly blurred. at this point its all but nonexistent. so you have a bunch of new school rappers rapping about the same drug game that niggas in the 90's rapped about, and niggas in the 80's paved the way for. you've got a message that's lost its context over the course of two decades so that the message has transformed from:
80's rapper: i sell coke cause shit is crazy in the ghetto and i've got no where to turn
to
90's rapper: i sell coke cause i'm a thug nigga, but trust me this game is fucked up
to
00's rapper: i sell coke and fuck white girls yea nigga look at my grill
basically you've got an art form that has had its run and is now starting to dwindle away in terms of creativity and original content.. like i said i have no problem with gangsta rappers and most of my favorite albums fall into that category. but rap as a genre is one thats meant to be scary to parents, it's meant to be the kind of shit you can't show on tv without a warning beforehand... and over the years it's simply lost it edge. nobody cares about crack anymore, the world has moved on and you have people like tracy morgan talking about how they used to sell crack for a living, with his mostly-white audience sympathizing with him and laughing at his jokes and shit like it's no big deal. 'thug life' just doesnt carry the same connotations it did back when pac was screaming it on every song.
basically what i'm trying to get at, and i know i've been rambling, is that rap's role in american music goes much deeper than these niggas on tv, and lyricism cannot and will not save rap from becoming obsolete, cause it's already lost it's edge. as soon as something scarier catches on and gains mainstream attention, rap music will become all but obsolete. just like rock and roll.
it gets the fucking hoes movin and thats all that fucking matters yo. if you want some deep lyrics listen to some smart rappers who rap about important stuff. i aint ever heard del the funky w/e in any club i ever went to. i do however hear lil wayne and akon because even if theyre not the best rappers theyre still great at making good music and thats all that matters to most people. people look into music way too much

lulz
to each his own... i like lil wayne too... i like young jeezy.. i'm not one of these elitist fucks who only listens to def potery jam type rappers... but classic hip hop will always be the shit to me. but i have to say, i would get bored as fuck with music if the only shit i listened to was the shit that hoes liked...
It gets the hoes moving? Solid argument...
Man someone should sign me up to make club music, because writing the most simplistic and cliche lyrics must be a GREAT way to make a living. These people don't even fucking try. It's hilarious and sad at the same time.
And KBK, what's your argument, good serving music? That already excludes you from any discussion about this.
"Today a young man on acid realized that all matter is merely energy condensed to a slow vibration. That we are all one consciousness experiencing itself subjectively. There is no such thing as death, life is only a dream, and we are the imagination of ourselves. Here's Tom with the weather."

actually kind of like Gorilla Zoe, not a big Gucci fan, although everyone around my town wants his dick.
